The third Indonesia Council Open Conference was held in Adelaide in September 2005, hosted by Flinders University with the support of The Flinders Asia Centre and Inside Indonesia. Over 140 people registered for the two-day conference, which featured 69 papers across a broad spectrum of topics by postgraduate students and academics from universities in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and the Netherlands. The conference also featured a film night; the Flinders Asia Lecture, presented by Sidney Jones; and a number of round table on Indonesian futures and Indonesian Studies in Australia.
The conference was organised by Michele Ford, together with Liz Morrell, Jim Schiller, Velix Wanggai, Leah Marrone and David Langdon. The organising committee was supported by a host of willing volunteers, most of whom were Indonesians studying at Flinders. Conference participants enjoyed the opportunity to engage in intellectual exchange and to strengthen the scholarly community.
