Indonesia Council Open Conference 2003

Australian National University
29-30 September 2003

The second Indonesia Council Open Conference was held in Canberra in September 2003 and hosted by the Australian National University. The conference was promoted as a less formal, multi-disciplinary conference, with a particular focus on the presentation of new and innovative work. Participation by postgraduate students and younger staff members was especially encouraged.

Over 130 people registered for the two-day conference. It featured 70 papers across a broad spectrum of topics by postgraduate students and academics from universities in Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand, the UK, Singapore, Malaysia and the Netherlands.

The great success of the 2003 conference was due to the efforts of Lis Jackson and Sally White, together with Robert Cribb, Greg Fealy, Ahmad Dahlan, Chris Manning, Akhmad Muzakki and Kathy Robinson as well as the support of both volunteers and participants. Generous financial assistance from the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies and the Indonesia Project at the Australian National University.
